2012 TRUMAN ADVENTURE RACE IS IN THE WORKS

I've got the race course prelim design all worked up and submitted for aproval from the land holders and it's a doozy.

A couple changes for the race this year include the ability to bring your own boat and receive a discount off the entry.

We are looking to take the long course to a night time race. The 6 hour sprint will remain a day race on Saturday but will start at 12 noon to allow for a "morning of" registration.

We are also adding a canoe only division that is open to canoe, kayak, outrigger canoe and surfski...OK and dragon boats.

I've got my permit meeting scheduled next week and I'll open registration as soon as I get approval.

Don't forget to bring your USARA yearly membership cards or $8 cash or check per person for the USARA daily insurance fee to the check-in Friday night.

Also, be sure to check out Truman Lake Bikes just down the street from check-in. Not only is it a great place to pick up any last minute gu's, tubes a bike stuff but it will be a checkpoint on the long course race so you might as well scout it out before hand.

Update: While a white front bike light is not on the required gear list, I HIGHLY recommend a bike light in addition to any standard headlamp FOR THE LONG COURSE TEAMS ONLY. Your standard headlamp may suffice if caught after dark on the road but the last trail section is another story entirely. Most teams should finish well before sundown but if you have any doubts, bring a handlebar or helmet mounted bike light.

It is a couple years old but it will give you 90% to play with until race day. We'll have an all new map with topo lines and ALL the new trail come race day.

PORTAGE OPTIONS

Long and short courses will both have optional canoe portage areas. No dragging of boats allowed. No more than 150 yards over rough ground. Portage wheels are allowed and would NOT have to be carried through the entire course.

I just posted the long course coed 3 and 4 person results to the USARA ranking site. With points garnered during the Truman Lake Adventure Race, I am proud to say that Team Trakkers has moved into the first place spot in the 2010 USARA National Rankings. Team Kuat moves up to the #6 spot.

TRUMAN LAKE AR 2010 - WRAP UP

Well, the Truman Lake Adventure Race 2010 is in the books and a wonderful memory that will last a life time for me and I'm hoping for you as well. This was our first attempt at running a short and long course at the same time. Every team and solo finished on both courses. This was a first time race for many and a first time solo for even more. Congrats to all finishers and high praise to Team Kuat for returning to defend their Truman Lake Adventure Race title. I hope you enjoyed running the courses as much as I did designing them.

I would like to thank all of the volunteers. We could not do this without you. I'd also like to thank our sponsors, Wal-Mart, Hawthorne Bank, UMB Bank and Remax Realty and Teddy's Tee's for providing a kick butt shirt for the event. I'd also like to thank the Corp of Engineers and Missouri Conservation and the Lost Valley Hatchery for the use of our beautiful resources in Warsaw, MO. Thanks so much to Mac Vorce and the Truman Lake Mountain Bike club and also the city of Warsaw for the wonderful bike trails that make the Truman Lake area the mountain biking destination that it has become.

TRUMAN LAKE AR 2010 - RACE UPDATE

Update: You never know with Missouri weather in April. It looks like it will be perfect weather this weekend. We WILL DROP the requirement for the fleece, hat and waterproof pants for both long and short courses.

Update: Just a reminder, tick, chiggars and snakes are all out. I'm guessing the poison ivy won't be far behind. Plan accordingly.

The Truman Lake Adventure Race is this weekend so time for some much needed detail.

Check in will be located at the Warsaw, MO Community Center, downstairs in the Park and Recreation Office (Northwest corner) at 181 W. Harrison, Warsaw, MO. Check in will go from 5 - 7:30 PM with a race meeting at 8:00 PM on Friday night. Short course teams may check in day of the race 7:30 - 8:30 AM. Click here for map.

The start finish for both long and short course will be located at Sterrett Creek Marina. Solo kayaks, canoes and bikes for all long course teams will be dropped at Sterrett Creek Marina on race morning. Start finish area will open at 5:00 AM with a start meeting scheduled at 5:45 and a prompt start at 6:00 AM for long course. Start meeting will be at 10:45 AM and start at 11:00 AM for short course. Short course teams will not have a transition area at the start finish area after the start of the race. All required gear, food and water(other than bike gear which will be staged) must be carried for the entire race.

Bike drop for short course only. There will be a bike drop at the Truman Lake Mountain Bike Park for the short course teams. Teams may drop their bikes and bike gear on Saturday, April 17th from 8:00 to 9:00 AM. See the link below for the bike drop map. Click here for map.

There are three options for carb loading Friday night in town.

There will be an all you can eat charity dinner upstairs in the Community Center until 7:00 PM. $5 gets you spaghetti, meatballs a salad and desert.

no time to train for long distances. So when a friend
asked me to race this 50 miler, of course I said yes.
We put together a 1st time team and threw all our new
bikes (thanks to the greatest bike store on Earth,

PRIZE MONEY AND TRAIL FUND DONATION

Team Kuat took home the big bucks this weekend with $210 cold cash as they won the 3/4 person coed division and additional prize money for fastest bike, orienteering and canoe. Off Road Fixation took home $75 for second and Team LA won $25 for third. Sweet Lincoln's Mullet garnered a whopping $20 for the best dance contest but I'm told Golden Girls were a close second.

We cut a check to the Warsaw Park and Recreation Trail fund in the amount of $250 with an additional donation from Team LA of their $25 prize money. Awesome job everyone!

Team Kuat wins big at the Truman Lake Adventure

Team Kuat won the inaugeral Truman Lake Adventure Race April 18th in an impressive 7 hours and 24 minutes. They also took fastest technical mountain bike, orienteering section and tied for fastest canoe.

I'd like to thank all the Corps of Engineers, Missouri Water Patrol, City of Warsaw City Council members, parks board, the Truman Lake Mountain Bike Club and all the volunteers that made this event happen. I'd also like to give a huge thank you to Mac Vorce for his endless energy. Couldn't have done this without you.

We had a couple teams add right at the wire. We are now three deep in three divisions with 11 total teams and solos combined.

The premier division will be the three and four person coed.

Sweet Lincoln's Mullet is guaranteed a win as the lone three 3 Person Open division team.

Race Update #2 - WEATHER FORECAST

Just checked the weather again. It has been changing all week (for the worse) but just to let you know, we will be racing rain, shine, sleet or snow. We may have to cut the canoe if we have a bunch of lightning or high winds but for now, it looks like 50-70 degrees with light winds under 10 mph. 40% chance of showers. I've got rain jackets and pants as part of the required gear. With the the temps where they are, I'll waive but highly recommend the rain pants. Cross your fingers.

One week and counting down. The Truman Lake Adventure Race will kick off next weekend!

The official entry deadline is tonight but I will still take last minute entries if you contact me via email before Wednesday night at midnight. ksumner11@embarqmail.com. We have just enough entries to break even and that is with a %15 donation to the trail fund and $300 in cash prizes for the coed division.

Due to our reduced size, we will be holding the check-in and race meeting at The View Restaurant and Lounge (see map below). They will have a spaghetti dinner special that evening for $8 bucks a head and will also have a live band on Friday and Saturday night. Check in will be from 5-7:30 and the race meeting at 8:00 PM.

There will be no gear check at check-in but there will be gear checks on the course.

The inaugural Truman Lake Adventure Race finds its home on the beautiful waters of Truman Lake at the Northern edge of the Missouri Ozarks. Come experience the down home hospitality of Warsaw, MO.

Race Date: Saturday - April 18th, 2009

Racer Check-in: Friday - April 17th, 5-7:30 PM
Race Meeting: Friday - April 17th, 8:00 PM
The View Restaurant, Warsaw, MO

Course: 10 hour limit - top teams will finish in 5-6 hours.

Distance: 40-50 miles

Disciplines: Kayak/Canoe, Mountain Bike, Trek, Navigation

Format: Unsupported - Solo, 2 Person, 3 Person and 4 Person

Solos must submit an adventure racing resume to ksumner11@embarqmail.com and receive approval from the race director before registering.

Divisions: Coed, Open - Premier Division is Four Person Coed (Must be premier to receive awards)

Age Limit: 16 and over. Any team with an athlete under the age of 18 must have a parent or legal guardian of that athlete on the team.

Entry Fee: Per Person: $75 per person until 3/31/09
$90 per person 4/1 - 4/11/09
Registration closes after 4/11/09

Each athlete must present or purchase ($35) a yearly USARA race license or purchase a one day license ($8) at the check-in.

Registration includes canoe, PFD and paddle rental, land use fees, insurance, maps and detailed race instruction on one great course.

OVERVIEW

Race Start Time: 7:00 AM Saturday April 18th, 2009

Mountain Bike (25-35 miles) Single track, jeep trail and paved roads.

Canoe/Kayaking (6-8 miles) Flat water
The paddle portion of the race will be on Truman Lake or the Osage River. Canoes, paddles and PFD's are provided to two, three and four person teams and are included in the entry price. Three person teams will be in one canoe. It is strongly recommended three person teams bring a portable canoe seat for the third person. Solo racers will be required to provide their own canoe or kayak, paddle and PFD.
